Why Mom Support Matters

Whether you’re a brand-new mom just trying to figure out nap schedules and feeding routines, or a seasoned mom navigating the tween or teen years, one thing remains true — having support from others who “get it” makes all the difference.
When I had my first baby, I used to joke that there needed to be a Match.com for new parents. Finding your “mom friends” — the people who understand your stage of life, your sleep deprivation, your constant mental load, and your wins (like making it out of the house with everyone fed and dressed!) — can be life-changing.
Why Support Matters
Motherhood can sometimes feel isolating. There are endless demands on your time and energy, and yet it can feel like no one truly sees how much you’re holding together. Having other moms to talk to — those who are in the trenches with you — can:
- Normalize what you’re going through (“Oh, your baby isn’t sleeping either?!”)
 - Provide encouragement and perspective when things feel hard (“You’re doing better than you think — this stage really will pass.”)
 - Offer practical advice and shared resources (“Did you know the local library has a free storytime for tots?”)
 - Create lasting friendships that extend far beyond playdates (I’m still close friends today with many of the moms I met on the playground when my kids were little.)

As your children grow, that support continues to matter. The conversations shift from feeding schedules and diaper brands to school stress, friendship drama, and navigating independence — but the need for connection stays constant.

If you’re local to Northern Virginia, there are so many wonderful groups and programs that help moms connect, learn, and support one another. Below are a few of my favorite resources. If you’re outside this area, check your local libraries, community centers, or recreation programs — most communities offer similar groups and activities.

You’re Not Meant to Do This Alone
If motherhood has felt lonely or overwhelming, please know you’re not alone — and you’re not failing. We’re not meant to do this in isolation.
Seek out your people. Join a group. Take a class. Reach out for help when you need it.
Because when moms support moms, we all do better. 🩵
