Coping with Emotions

It’s interesting how motherhood presents so many opportunities to experience two seemingly opposing emotions at the same time:

๐Ÿฅบ Joy regarding the arrival of your baby but sadness around your birth story

๐Ÿ˜— Gratitude for your role as a mom while grieving the freedom you had before

๐Ÿ˜” Excitement regarding your child's milestones but mourning the end of infancy

๐Ÿคจ Love for your child yet hatred for their behavior

Negative emotions (anger, sadness, fear, grief, frustration) can feel overwhelming. And it can be confusing when we have multiple emotions at the same time, especially when feelings seem completely contradictory or misaligned with the experience.

It’s important to have space for all our feelings.

Allow yourself to acknowledge, accept, and experience them with compassion and without judgment.

It's normal to feel all of the things. It's part of the human experience.

I love to say, "Our feelings are not optional, but what we do with them is."

What we resist persists. When we resist or judge an emotion, it lingers.

When we acknowledge it and allow ourselves to move through it, we loosen its grip.
